Happy NaNoWriMo with love from a tasseography lesson at Lighthouse Writers, Denver

Wanna write a novel in a month? NaNoWriMo is where it’s at. “National Novel Writing Month was established in 1999. It is also a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that believes stories matter.

And over 250 NaNoWriMo novels have been traditionally published.” Two of these are among my favorites — Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus.

This August, Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver was kind enough to have me present an introduction to tea reading to their Friday 500 writers.

With thanks to writer and Lighthouse Writers Creative Curator Dan Manzanares, who organized the event and brainstormed with me on how to use two demonstration tea readings in the presentation, here are some of Dan’s photos from the evening and excerpts from his notes of my presentation. May they inspire your inventive self. wherever your muses lead you:

Tasseomancy Notes:

“It is about communication, connection between minds and memory

–Process:

–waiting for the leaves to unfold
–leaf images swirling on the surface are read
–fortune telling isn’t dooming

–meaningful coincidence

–synchronicity

–possible ancestral symbols

–Symbols give permission to the person being read”

Though my next presentation will be geared towards kids and their families, I’ll be using a format inspired by this Lighthouse Writers experience.

Here’s information on this free November 12 event (private readings from 8-9 pm at a nominal fee):

Intro to tea readings for kids and grownups

What:  Tabitha Dial, new family member of Gnome’s Nook and a friend of the fairies, brings the magic of tea reading to the Gnome’s Nook Canopy.

Reserve a spot for this free orientation to the art of reading tea, appropriate for everyone, including all kids allowed to stay up till 8, as we’ll leave time from 8-9 pm to those who want private readings from Tabitha.

Participants will be able to create a tea story of their own using a handful of traditional tea symbols as a prompt to take home.

Sip Fairy Blend tea and enjoy goodies while you learn a quick history of tea reading from Tabitha and meet her friend, Jeremiah the frog.

Jeremiah will help select two volunteers who’ll receive demonstration readings during orientation to help everyone understand the ancient art of tea reading.

RSVP with Tabitha at 720 422 5633 — Ask about private readings.

When: Wednesday, Nov 12 from 6:30-9 pm.

Where: Gnome’s Nook, 1078 S Gaylord St, Denver, CO 80209

Cost:  Free. Private readings, from approximately 8-9, are $10 for ten minutes and since they’ll be rare as fairy wings and last as long as morning dew on a gnome’s nose, please sign up for yours now at 720 422 5633.

Thanks for the read.

I’d love to read for you. Please visit my website for information on my events, publications, and to book a Tarot and/or tea leaf reading.
